RUSSELL LEAPS OVER 6'-6, PLACES 7TH AT THE NYS CHAMPS!!

3/3 - NY State Federation Champs - Cornell University
Despite being sick at home most of the week, Brian Russell leaps a personal best 6'-6 in the high jump.  Russell's jump only had him finish in 7th place in one of the most competitive high jumps in recent years.  In the last five years his 6'-6 jump would've had him place in the top 3!  Liam Vogt has a tough day at the pit but still has one more indoor meet to go having already qualified for the New Balance Nationals.
Russell - 6'-6 - CLEARANCE
Russell - 6'-7 - 1st Miss
Russell - 6'-7 - 2nd Miss
Russell - 6'-7 - 3rd Miss

2/28 - Eastern State Champs - Armory
Junior Phil Blanda sets a PR in his final meet of the season - 19'-8.75."

2/18 - Catholic State Champs - St. Anthony's
A BIG day for the Viking jumpers as Brian Russell (HJ) and Liam Vogt (LJ) win Catholic State titles in their specialties.  Vogt's 22'-7.25 jump is #3 in S.I. History and #11 in CHSAA History!  Vogt (22'-7.25"), Russell (21'-5.5") and Jerry Mattia (20'-10") all soar past 20 feet.  Russell's LJ PR earned him a 4th place medal.  In the high jump, Brian Russell won the competition at 6'-2 then had 3 solid attempts at 6'-6.  The season ends for all except the jumpers.

Liam Vogt - Catholic State Champion - Long Jump - 22'-7.25"

2/5 - Frosh/Soph Intersectionals - Armory
In his first meet ever, Freshmen Mike Russell breaks a school record in the freshmen high jump that dates back to 1996!  His 5'-6 clearance earns him a silver medal at the freshmen city championships.  The record was held by Ron Jacobs - '96, Jimmy Salerno - '97 and Stephen Favale - '06.  Brandon Prato earns a third place medal in the frosh shot put.  Vin Claro and Nick Pollio record 16 and 14 second PR's in the 1600.  Soph Nick D'Addesa smashes his PR in the mile with a 4:46.87 time, a 12 second PR.  In the varsity competition, Brian Russell sets a PR and wins the high jump in 6'-5.  The varsity 4x200 sets a seasonal best with a 1:36.32 FAT on a sizzling fast leg by Phil Blanda, 23.3.  Rosie breaks 25!

Mike Russell breaks a 16 year old school record in the Frosh HJ.

1/28 - Mayor's Cup Champs - Armory
Liam Vogt is the "Best in the City" in the long jump and Brian Russell places 4th with a PR of 20'-6".  Russell would later take 2nd in the high jump and narrowly miss 6'-6" on three great attempts.  Frank DeLeo, Joe Carrara & Craig Benigno break 26 seconds in the 200.  Unfortunately for the mid-distance runners, the meet cancelled the 1600, 4x4 and 4x8 so the team has to hurry into the 600.  All wasn't lost as Tyler Franco and Nick D'Addesa run a solid 1:30 - which hopefully should be a sign of things to come.

Liam Vogt - 1st Place - 21'-10.5"

Brian Russell - 4th Place - 20'-6"

Congrats to Dan Zaccariello '10 who ran 4:08.95 FAT in the full mile for Wagner College.  It crushed their school record by 6 seconds!

In the weight portion of the meet, the team comes out victorious for Sea's first intersectional weight title.  CHSAA Intersectionals champions include: Ray Cardella (Sub 55), Nick Connors (Jr 300), Sam Mondello (Midget 600) and the Sub-Midget, Midget and Junior Midget 4x200 Relays.
